Blog: This Week in the Woods

Finding Treasure
04.10.2012

This is the week to be looking for the orioles high in the tree canopy over the Gathering Grove in Fugate Woods. The picnic area is particularly inviting with the calm, flat water of the south fork of the Vermillion River calming flowing past it on it's journey to the Illinois River, far to the north. With the major flush of the Spring ephemeral flowers waning, the last beauties of the bloom cycle are showing their colors.

Frilly Sweet Williams, May Apples with their 'umbrellas' held high and soft pink Wild Geranium and are dancing along the inviting trails. The beautiful, but very shy and elusive Wood Ducks have shown their magnificent colors as well in the quiet of the early morning. Good luck....there is treasure to be found in Fugate Woods on any spring day.
